Launch Out Into The Deep

“When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” Luke 5:4 (MEV)

It’s the eighth day of a new year; 2016! FYI, it’s not by coincidence that I am just now blogging in the New Year. There are so many things I could say about “New” and “Fresh Starts”  however, I really want to talk to those who have been struggling and feeling like your struggle has been in vain and unproductive. Could it be that you have underestimated the God in you? Isn’t it something how we can visualize an all mighty, all powerful God of the universe until it comes to that same God living and operating inside of us. I am finding out that the only time we really struggle is when we flesh it out. What do I mean by that? I mean we try to make God fit in a little box of how we think something should be. Even though He already told us in the word, that His thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways. Yet that doesn’t stop us from trying to do our plans and get Him to bless them.

Well guess what; we are not the first to try our methods and come up empty handed. In Luke the 5th chapter Christ said to a weary team of fishermen, “Launch out into the deep…” He already knew they had returned from an unsuccessful mission, and was tired, weary and discouraged. Yet, he didn’t wait for them to choose the time or the place, he simply told them what to do. The only choice they had in the matter was whether or not they would obey his command. Just in case He missed it, Simon Peter explained to him that they had toiled (worked) all night and came up empty handed before he obeyed the command. (Another passage says they were told to cast their nets on the “right” side of the boat.) It goes on to say that the moment they obeyed they caught a multitude of fish! So much so, that another boat had to help them gather it! This net breaking, boat sinking, load of fish was so much it almost sank both ships!!!

I said all of that to say this year, what area of your life have you been “playing it safe” and staying comfortable, yet unproductive in? I dare you to launch out into the deep. Leave your familiar place and seek Him for direction on what your “right side” of the boat is. When Christ said His yoke is easy and His burden is light; He meant it. I will be the first to admit, I too had become weary from trying to do it my way. I decree and declare that this year, I am launching into the deep! That is the place where my total dependency is on Him. Not my skills, connections, or abilities. In the deep you can’t afford to do it your way. Remember the All Mighty lives within you… Col 1:27b “Christ in you; the hope of glory!” I pray this is your Best Year yet and that you walk in fearless obedience to all that God requires and desires of you.
