How I Overcame COVID-19

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” Romans 8:37

The reason I’m sharing this is to help others understand that just because someone gets it, doesn’t mean it has to end in death! Believe me, my heart is truly heavy for everyone who lost a loved one to COVID-19. I too have lost family and friends to it. I am continually praying for all of those who are grieving the loss of Loved ones. Yet I want to help anyone else who may be diagnosed with it by my testimony. You should know that not only did I have it, also my Fiancé, some of our children and grandchildren too! By the way he and my daughter had underlying health conditions and GOD brought us ALL out without the smell of smoke! To God be the glory none of us have any residue from it!

I didn’t have the typical symptoms? All I had was dizziness, dehydration, allergy like symptoms, and nausea. The day I passed out, I was just as shocked as the ones getting me up off of the floor! When we got to the hospital I didn’t have any fever however my blood pressure was low. After running cat scans, and other tests they decided to test for COVID-19. When the results came back positive, it didn’t make any sense at all. The x-rays of my lungs were clear, I was breathing just fine and wasn’t even coughing.

One VERY important thing was that God told me DO NOT FEAR this! Fear opens the door to too many other things. He had me decree and declare over my body and lots of times all I could do was pray in the Spirit. It was a fight not to bet scared especially when you’re fighting to breathe (which did occur 4 days in) but the Holy Spirit would settle me and remind me, “It is well with my soul so I have NO NEED of fear”. Once the enemy realized he couldn’t torment with the fear of dying because it was well with my soul those tormenting thoughts left me. I apologize now for how long this will be, however if you keep reading you will understand how I overcame COVID-19. I pray this blesses you!

How I Overcame:

  1. Trust GOD: Yes pursue medical help but don’t put your confidence in man or medicine but rather trust God to lead and guide them and even you. I honestly prayed for God to revel to me what my body needed and that’s what I did along with following Dr’s orders.
  2. HYDATE: My doctor said my dizziness and nausea was from dehydration. The main thing I learned was the dehydration was debilitating and Affected EVERYTHING!
  3. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY: Although I had heard others who had COVID earlier say if you get it you have to make yourself keep moving, to my surprise the Dr. was telling me to listen to my body and rest.As much as I wanted to keep moving I had no choice but to rest because I couldn’t sit up or stand with out falling out. (I passed out twice) I think some of the times I was sleeping and couldn’t wake up or stay woke was probably the same thing…
  4. USE WISDOM WHEN PUSHING YOUR LIMITS: Even though I had to be still most of the time, whenever I could, I MADE myself do deep breathing exercises even though it hurt. I would do them throughout the day as much as I could stand so my lungs would HAVE to expand. It did make me cough but thankfully my coughs were productive. I had a lot of phlegm and I made SURE I coughed it up and out when I could. Same thing with my nose. I blew it often to try to get rid of whatever I could. I was FULL…
  5. WHAT MEDS DID I TAKE?
    1. Benadryl because that’s what they gave me at the hospital and it helped. They told me to stop taking the Zyrtec D that I was taking because it fostered the dehydration.
    1. Aspirin to keep from getting blood clots because COVID is known to thicken your blood and cause them. (I took an adult aspirin every other day vs a baby aspirin every day because that’s what I had.)
    1. Z-pack antibiotics prescribed by my doctor
  6. VITAMINS AND SUPPLEMENTS I TOOK
    1. 2000mg Vitamin C
    1. Echinacea
    1. B-12
    1. Multiple Vitamin
  7. WHAT THE HOLY SPIRIT LED ME TO DO
    1. Since water tasted like metal I didn’t want to drink it. However I knew I had to hydrate. The Holy Spirit reminded me I needed electrolytes so I made myself drink Smart Water for the electrolytes. (By the way it was the only water that tasted good to me during that time.) I also drank Gatorade and Fruit and Vegetable Juice, as well as ate popsicles and watermelon. All of which helped me rehydrate.
    1. Holy Spirit reminded me of a health tip I learned some time ago, eat Pineapple. I ate a little pineapple every morning to make sure my enzymes were working. Active enzymes cause your body to absorb the nutrients in the food you eat.
    1. Drink hot broths, tea with ginger, lime in water to help with dehydration… (Lemon water will pull fluid off but lime water makes your water alkaline and hydrates you.) I even dropped cough drops in my tea. That felt SOOOO good to my chest and helped open me up. (I did use Vick’s Vapor rub around my nose chest and throat as often as I needed it to help me breathe.)

***THE CHANGE THAT I DIDN’T EXPECT***

I realized that I had to try to eat to nurture myself and give my body something to fight with. I took 2000mg of Vitamin C to shock my immune system as well as an aspirin to help keep my blood thin because COVID is known to thicken the blood and cause other issues. Since I’m anemic I took an aspirin every other day. I took 2 Extra Strength Tylenol as needed. My Dr. put me on a Z-pack (5 day supply of Antibiotic) She said it’s been known to help as well. Oh also in keeping hydrated I also drank juices, V-8 (I would warm it up and drink it as a meal when I was 1st trying to get something to stay down.) I didn’t have diarrhea but I had pepto bismal on deck in case it hit me. I had to wear the wrist bands to help me with nausea because the nasuea meds they gave me made me throw up.

The last thing that I didn’t expect was the change in my diet that took place. So as everyone who knows me knows I’ve been vegan for a long time and every now and then I would try to veer off but I would always end up right back there. Well even though I never lost taste, everything tasted different! To my surprise ALL of my vegan meats tasted NASTY! I WAS ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED! They were either Too salty or too dry. I was so disappointed that all I could do was drink liquids and eat fruit. One day my fiancé was eating a sandwich and it smelled sooooo good. When I inquired he gave me a piece to see if I would like it. It was a turkey sandwich… When I tell you it was like a party in my mouth! OMGGGGG Immediately I got up and made me a sandwich. At that moment I realized my body was telling me what it needed and I listened. Since then I am no longer vegan, even though I do still eat mostly vegan foods. I eat fish and poultry as well. IF I try other meats it will be few and far in between.

BOTTOM LINE

  • If you get COVID it doesn’t mean it has to end in death
  • Trust God and seek him as well the Dr’s
  • Listen to your body, it will tell you what it needs
  • DON’T EMBRACE FEAR
  • Use wisdom and keep your spirit up

Praying for you,
God’s Girl Chiquita
